Scat, tracks and animals (Denali photos)

Most of our animal sightings happened on the bus trip from the Wilderness Access Center to Eielson Visitor’s Center, along the only road in Denali National Park. Traffic is limited to buses, construction equipment and very few personal vehicles. “Camper buses” pick up hitch-hikers anywhere along the road. Hooray for mass transit it parkland!

As instructed by park rangers, I spoke and sang loudly during most of my solo camping hike at Cathedral Mountain. Except for birds and squirrels, I didn’t see any critters, which was basically my plan. Others can have all the bear or moose encounters “on equal terms” that they want. I did see lots of neat scat, however. Bears strike me as wasteful eaters (sort of like people). They graze heavily on berries, but apparently don’t chew a whole lot.
