Fall in Florida!

Finally, a little break in the action — and the weather. After a busy week of working at the inaugural Sustainable and Authentic Florida Conference, I made time to take my canoe, “Rastaflage,” on the Alafia River yesterday. It was the perfect temperature for paddling in a tank-top, but I had to add a layer of long-sleeves when the sun dropped below the horizon.

This morning felt like the first day of fall in Tampa. Though I turned off the AC and opened windows last Thursday, it was only my stubbornness (and cold showers) that kept me from caving on a couple of hot afternoons. Today, however, I woke before dawn and was delighted to need jeans and a sweater. Being Florida, it warmed up by noon, but it never got hot — ideal for a bicycle picnic on the Upper Tampa Bay Trail with friends and a poodle named Kiki.

If this great weather keeps up, it will take a bit of willpower to focus on trip preparations and other tasks before I leave. Just a few weeks to go!
